The honest reason

How we build a proper website for £179

“Cheap” usually means one of two things: an off-the-shelf theme with your name typed in, or an agency cutting corners. Ours is neither. The price is low because the job is small and we’ve done it over 150 times.

  • It’s two pages, not twenty

    Most small firms need a home page that says what you do and where, and a page that makes it easy to get in touch. We don’t pad it out to justify a bigger bill.

  • We build this kind of site all the time

    Over 150 delivered. We know what a roofer’s or plasterer’s site needs to say, so we don’t start from a blank page every time.

  • No agency overhead

    No discovery workshop, no project manager, no office you’re paying for.

Six things to check before you buy a cheap website

We looked at the UK sellers ranking for cheap web design in October 2026. Their listed prices ran from under £100 to £995. The price told us almost nothing. These six questions told us everything.

  1. Who owns it, and whose name is the domain in?

    Us: yours once it’s paid, which for a one-time price is as soon as we have the payment in full. Your domain is transferred to you free if we registered it.

  2. What does it cost after the first year of hosting?

    Us: £50 a year from year two, for hosting, security, upkeep and your yearly updates. It renews automatically, with a reminder email about 30 days before, and you can cancel any time before it. Written on this page and in our terms.

  3. Is SSL (the padlock) included, or an extra?

    Us: included, always. One seller we checked charges £70 a year for it on its cheapest plan.

  4. Who writes the words?

    Us: we do, from your details, if you want us to. A cheap site you have to write yourself often never gets finished.

  5. Can you see it before you pay?

    Us: yes. Draft first, payment after. If you don’t like the draft, you owe nothing.

  6. Is it built for phones?

    Us: phones first. Most of your customers will find you on one. Check any site you’re quoted on your own phone before you say yes.

If a seller can’t answer all six in plain words, that’s the catch.

You see a draft before you pay anything: Basic within 2 working days of having your details, Advanced within 5.

From year two: £50 a year on both packs. It covers hosting, security and upkeep, plus your yearly updates. It renews automatically once a year by Stripe. About 30 days before each renewal you get a reminder email, and you can cancel any time before it renews, by email. Your domain is included when we manage it in our account (if you keep it in your own, you renew it yourself). If you would rather move, we transfer your domain for free and hand over the site once it is fully paid.

* Business email is for receiving. It is an address on your own domain, and every message is forwarded to your personal inbox. To send from it too, you set up Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or Zoho Mail yourself. We add the DNS records for you.

Questions about cheap web design

How much does a cheap website cost in the UK?

From the UK sellers we checked in October 2026, the cheap one-off band, where most of them sit, runs from under £100 to about £600, usually with a year of hosting included. The highest price we saw listed was £995. Ours is £179 for two pages or £469 for up to ten, with the first year of hosting in and £50 a year after that.

Is a £179 website an off-the-shelf theme?

No. We design it around your business, your services and your branding. We reuse layouts that work, but never another business’s words, photos or branding. Off-the-shelf themes are how some sellers get under £100; it’s also why those sites look like each other.

What if two pages isn’t enough?

Advanced is £469 for up to ten pages, with online booking, a business email and Google Business Profile setup assist. If you’re not sure, start with the draft and we’ll tell you honestly which pack fits.

Will it show up on Google?

It’s built to be found: fast, mobile first, tidy headings and titles. Nobody honest can promise a ranking, and we don’t. If you want monthly work on your rankings, that’s a separate Local SEO service, from £247 a month, never bundled into the £179.

Do I have to pay for a draft I turn down?

No. You walk away and pay nothing. If you like it but want changes, that’s what your revision rounds are for: one on Basic, three on Advanced.

Is there a cheaper option than £179?

Not from us as a one-off. If £179 at once is the problem, the same Basic site is £21 a month for 12 months on our pay monthly plan.
