SEO for tradesmen:
be the firm they ring, not the one they scroll past

When someone nearby searches “plumber near me” or “roofer in Chelmsford”, the job goes to whoever Google shows first. SEO for a tradesman isn’t magic. It’s your website, your listings, a page for each service and town, your Google profile and a steady flow of reviews, worked on every month so that it’s you they find.

No ranking promises; nobody honest can make them. 3-month minimum, then notice by email, ending at the end of the following month. Not happy in the first three months? Walk away.

The problem

You do good work. The next customer still can’t find you.

Your customers say so. Your van says so. But the person who needs a boiler fixed tonight doesn’t know you. They search, and they find the firm down the road.

Sound familiar?

  • You show up on Google for your own name, but not for “electrician near me”.
  • Your Google profile has an old number, the wrong hours, or three photos from 2019.
  • Checkatrade says one address. Yell says another. Google isn’t sure which is right.
  • A competitor with 80 reviews sits above you with your 6. Their work isn’t better. Their profile is.
  • You paid someone for “SEO” once. You got a PDF, a few phone calls, and no idea what they did.

Every month this stays as it is, those jobs go somewhere else. That’s not a scare line. It’s just how the map works.

Checkatrade, Yell, or your own site?

Paying for leads, or owning them

Directory leads are rented. You pay for the listing, the enquiry goes to you and four others, and the moment you stop paying, you vanish. Your own site and your own Google profile are yours: every page we add and every review you earn keeps working after we’ve finished.

We don’t tell you to leave Checkatrade. We tell you to stop depending on it.

Honest numbers, with their sources: a competing website seller says “Many tradesmen pay £200–£500 a month for Checkatrade” (TradesmenWebsites); a trades blog puts it at “several hundred pounds a year” (getatradeswebsite.co.uk); one plumber on a forum reported five months with a single lead. Your own numbers will differ. Some trades do well on directories. But a directory is a cost every month for ever, and your own visibility is an asset.

Every month

The jobs, in plain English

Six things, done every month. Which ones you get depends on the package (next section).

  1. Your website, pulling its weight

Page titles, headings and descriptions that say what you do and where, and a monthly check for anything broken. Most trade websites say “Home” and “Services” and nothing Google can use.

    All packages.

  2. Your listings, matched

Same name, address and phone number everywhere: Yell, Bing, the trade and local directories. When the details disagree, Google trusts you less. When they match, it trusts you more.

All packages; trade directories on Boost and Pro.

  3. Your Google Business Profile, kept alive

Right services, right areas, right hours, fresh photos and posts. This is the profile Google shows in the map. Most tradespeople set it up once and never touch it again.

Kept accurate on Essentials; fully managed, with two posts a month, on Boost and Pro.

  4. A page for each service and town

A page for “boiler repair in Braintree” can rank where your homepage never will. We agree each page with you first, write it, and put it live on your site.

One a month on Boost, three on Pro.

  5. A review routine you’ll actually use

A short message you send when a job is done, with your direct review link. Reviews are one of the biggest levers in local results and the one most firms never pull.

    Boost and Pro.

  6. A report you can read in the van

Every task we did, and where you rank. No jargon, no 40-page export.

    All packages.

Who it’s for

Who this is for, and who it isn’t

It’s for you if:

  • You’re a UK trade with a real service area: a town, a county, a radius you’ll drive
  • You’ve got a website, ours or anyone’s, or you’ll get one first
  • You can send a review request when a job is done, if we set it up for you
  • You can give it three months

It’s not for you if:

  • You want page one in a fortnight. Anyone who promises that is guessing or lying.
  • You work nationally or only through subcontracts. This is for local search.
  • You won’t reply. We need you to check what we write and answer Google’s verification requests, like a postcard or video check.

Trades we’ve built for

We’ve built websites for roofers, plasterers, heating engineers and more. We haven’t yet got SEO results to show you from these packages, and we won’t dress up website reviews as SEO results. What they show is how we work with trades: quick, plain, no jargon.

A heating engineer on the website we built him:

“Most agencies I spoke to wanted thousands upfront and took weeks just to reply to an email. These guys turned it around in days, didn’t talk down to me with tech jargon, and gave me a fair price. My customers constantly say how easy the site is to use on their phones.”

A tradesman who’d had enough of Yell:

“I had lots of problems with yell with web sites an everything else but this guy here is fab straight to the point an got on with building me a site in a couple of days I’m really happy with the price an the design I wouthave no problem recommending him great job”

Questions tradespeople ask us

Isn’t SEO a scam?

A lot of it is sold like one: vague promises, no list of work, a report nobody can read. That’s why our terms list the jobs in every package, and why every report lists what we did. If a month’s work isn’t in the report, ask us. And if you’re not happy in the first three months, you walk away, so the only way we keep you is by being worth it.

I tried SEO before and it didn’t work. Why would this be different?

Fair. Ask yourself what you were shown. Most people were sold rankings, got a PDF, and never saw a task list. We don’t sell rankings. We sell the work: your website, your listings, your area pages, your reviews, written up monthly. A bad experience once is a reason to check the terms, not a reason to let the firm down the road keep the jobs.

I get most of my work by word of mouth. Do I need this?

Word of mouth is the best lead there is, and we’d never tell you otherwise. But the person your customer recommends you to still Googles you before they ring. If they find an empty profile, no reviews and the wrong number, the recommendation leaks. Local SEO is what catches it.

I’m a sole trader. Is £247 a month worth it for one van?

Work it out from your own prices. If one extra job a month covers it, it’s worth it. If it doesn’t, it isn’t the right spend for you yet, and we’ll say so. For one van and one town, Essentials is usually enough to start. Move to Boost when you want pages for more towns.

I cover ten towns. Do I need a page for every one?

Over time, yes, for the towns where you want the work. That’s what Boost’s page a month and Boost Pro’s three a month are for. We start with the towns and services that pay best, agreed with you, and work outwards.

How much of my time does it take?

Not much. Let us into your website, and into your Google profile if you’ve got one. Look over the descriptions, posts and pages we write before they go live. When Google asks you to verify something, like a postcard or video check, answer it. If a listing is suspended because of its past history or an unanswered verification, that’s on Google, not us.

My website wasn’t built by you. Can you still work on it?

Yes, on every package. We need editing access to fix titles and add pages; the access terms say exactly what we will and won’t change. If your platform can’t take new pages, we’ll tell you before you pay.

What’s the contract, and how do I stop?

3 months minimum, then monthly. To stop, email us: it ends at the end of the month after the month you tell us (if you tell us on any day in March, it ends on 30 April), and a part-month is charged only up to that day. Not happy inside the first three months? Email us and it stops straight away, nothing more to pay. Anything already improved on your site or profile stays yours. Buying as a private person rather than for your trade? Our terms (section 15A) also give you 14 days to cancel at the start.

Ready to be the one they find?

Message us with your trade and your area. We reply with a few questions and tell you which package fits. From £247 a month, no setup fee, a report every month, and the door open if it isn’t working.

Optional. Max 500 characters.

We use your details only to reply to this enquiry. Send via WhatsApp saves it first, then opens a chat with your message ready to send. See our privacy policy.

No ranking promises. Results usually take 3–6 months. Packages and terms: the packages page and our terms, section 11.
